This article, which features artist Michael Christian, discusses Christian’s work Elevation, which was featured at Burning Man 2008. While the article itself is vaguely interesting, the part that caught MY attention is where Christian discusses Burning Man approaching him in 1997 and offering to pay him to create something and bring it to the desert, even though he was specifically anti-festival. We aren’t talking art grants, kids. They approached him and paid him to come.
I suppose this doesn’t count because it was before the 10 Principles were created. I wonder if people started approaching Burning Man, *asking* for money, and if that played into their eventual creation of the Principles.
Interesting. Frowny face, Burning Man.
